My Clean India - A Dream or Reality ?

I am not a Professional blogger. I would like to pen down my thought through this article . “SWACHH BHARAT MISSION” – National level campaign introduced by most expected and trusted (by majority of Indians) Prime minister Mr.Narendra Modi. So far, the mission has got wide media coverage and got popularised all over India. The challenges are posed by popular persons and are accepted by the same… The point here to be debated is, Will this change into an awareness campaign or a publicity ?
Take for Example, The Rice Bucket Challenge had got a great support and has reached the grassroot people through NGOs and Civil societies. Similarly Ice Bucket Challenge gone viral through social media and collected huge money for noble cause (Though challenged by multimillionaires). In order to make a particular scheme success, it has to reach the target group (Common men).
Cleanliness is a wide term which includes, garbage removal, preventing Litters, ensuring proper drainage system, sanitation etc (end of thinking capacity ). In India, Rural population constitutes about 70 %. According to UNICEF, around 620 million (Out of 1.2 Billion – 50 % as on 2013) people defecate in open.About 80 % of sewage in  India are untreated which directly flows into river water. There are lot many bottlenecks (Fossil fuel combustion, factory emissions, Pollution etc…). I am not criticizing the scheme or pointing out the poverty in our nation. But, Without taking any proper steps (except few private firms’ sanitation project initiatives ) to tackle these problems how are we (Govt. of India) going to make a CLEAN INDIA ??? Do we have knowlege base and proper disposal mechanism ?
Let us compare our country  with others’.
  •  In California (USA) the punishment for first-time littering starts at a $100 fine and eight hours of picking up roadside litter.
  • In Singapore,Even selling chewing gum is forbidden.
    Litter-Lasts-This-Long
    Decomposiition period
Whereas, In our Nation, neither there is proper legislation to ensure cleanliness nor we have stringent laws to punish those who litter. If the Prime minister is really concerned about cleaning our nation, Laws must be passed with deifinition of responsibilities / accountability / duties/breaches/penalties. I haven’t heard any process happening like that (Till) now. Do u ?
So far, we have blamed the Govt. (as usually we do). Now let us analyze our part in making India clean . Do we really loveto have a clean, green India ??? If your answer is Yes, Are u aware of your resposibility ?
“Cleanliness is a Fundamental Responsibility of an Indian Citizen”.
Are we keeping our surroundings clean ? Atleast do we use dustbins to dispose our wastes ? Am not here to question you. Just think yourselves, with the development of social media, most of the people love to take photos like cleaning some place (For uploading Only !!!) with caption “Clean India campaign”. How do you expect cleanliness with just one-time cleaning ? The underlying problem is lack of civic mindedness and proper etiquette. It is human psychology. we never make a clean place dirty. At the same time, we make a dirty place even more dirtier.
“India is a country where private places are clean and public places are untidy”.
Instead of stressing on collective responsiblity, everyone of us, as a citizen of India should have individual responsibilty and an ethic. Achieving this mission is not  a tough one. But we need to analyze and systemize. Nothing can be achieved without a proper system and accountability. Presently, this Clean India Campaign, instead of being and awarenss campaign, it has become a tool of publicity.
I’ve penned down my thoughts regarding “Swachh bharat Abhiyan”. Making this as a reality lies in our hands… Am not saying this as a dream… But We need to focus, enact laws and cooperate to make it into reality.
Thanks for those who patiently (may be impatienlty !!!) read my article… And now its time for you to throw your points and enlighten me !!!

THANK U
